The Cottage Cook Story
Cottage Inn Catering was built on generations of treasured European and Scandinavian family recipes, homemade cooking, and the belief that great food brings people together. Beginning in 1960, Mary Skoog became known throughout Central Minnesota for her exceptional meals, beautiful presentation, and warm hospitality. From weddings and anniversaries to community gatherings and special events, her reputation for delicious homemade cuisine spread quickly and made Cottage Inn Catering a trusted name for decades.
Mary’s cooking was inspired by the traditions passed down through her family, including recipes and techniques shared by her mother-in-law, Olga Skoog, and memories of gathering around beautifully prepared meals as a child. Every entrée, side dish, and dessert reflected the comfort and care of old-world cooking traditions, made completely from scratch and served with pride.
Today, that legacy continues through her daughter, Melinda Skoog Ellingson. Using the recipes, methods, and love for cooking taught to her by her mother, Melinda brings the Cottage Cook tradition into homes across the community. Whether preparing comforting meals during a busy season of life, helping families after surgery or illness, or providing small in-home catering for special gatherings, Cottage Cook continues to deliver homemade meals made with care, tradition, and heart.
